Florida Swimmers Moroney, Brent Named To NCSA Roster For Irish Open Championships; Cassidy, Kershaw Named To Staff

April 2, 2015—Megan Moroney of St. Andrew’s Swimming and Kendall Brent of Swim Florida are members of the National Club Swimming Association’s 51-swimmer roster headed to the April 30-May 3 Irish Open Championships in Dublin, Ireland.
The meet, held at the National Aquatic Centre, is a top European international meet and qualifier for Ireland’s team for the World Championships later this year.
The two Florida swimmers qualified at the March 17-21 NCSA Juniors Orlando at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center.
Both Moroney, 17, and Brent, 16, are ranked first in the state and among the nation’s Top 40.
Moroney, headed to the University of Virginia this fall, is one of the state’s top high school and club swimmers. The Olympic trials qualifier finished her high school career at St. Andrew’s in Boca Raton with seven gold medals, tied for second most in Florida high school history.
At NCSA, among Moroney’s top finishes was second in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:02.81, second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:01.45 and fourth in the 100-meter freestyle in 56.24.
Brent, a junior at Fort Myers High School, was invited to the June 2-6 USA Swimming National Open Water Select Camp at Florida Gulf Coast University. She is one of 12 women selected from around the nation.
Brent competed in five events at NCSA Junior Nationals: 1,650 freestyle, 16:42.57; 200 freestyle, 1:51.86; 500 freestyle, 4:47.46; 400 freestyle, 4:15.19 and 800 freestyle, 8:44.94.
St. Andrew’s Swimming aquatics supervisor and head coach Sid Cassidy will serve as women’s head coach.
Liz Kershaw, programs director for Hurricane Aquatics in Coral Gables, will serve as team manager.
NCSA is a private, non-profit organization for professionally coached swimming clubs and pro club swimming coaches in the U.S.
